Environment

As an innovative, responsible developer that believes in creating a positive legacy for future generations, Countryside Properties is committed to implementing the principles of sustainable development throughout our business.

As part of the construction process we comply with current Government legislation regarding your new home and have led private developer best practice in achieving the Building Research Establishment's EcoHomes Certification. We have also been recognised as the "Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year" at the Building Sustainability Awards 2005.

We ensure that environmental considerations are incorporated into the planning and design of all of our developments, and that the landscapes we create integrate and enhance the surrounding natural and built environment. During construction, we adhere to the principles of best construction practice and good neighbourliness through the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

EcoHomes

Throughout our business we are looking to reduce our environmental and social impacts and we will achieve an EcoHomes rating of "Very Good" at New Broughton.

EcoHomes is an independent, transparent, environmental labelling scheme for housing. It assesses the environmental quality of a development by considering the broad concerns of climate change, use of resources, pollution and impacts on bio-diversity.

These concerns are balanced against the need for a high quality internal environment.

The issues assessed by EcoHomes are grouped into seven category areas listed below:
  • Energy: Operational energy and CO2
  • Transport: Location issues related to transport
  • Pollution: Air and water pollution
  • Materials: Environmental implications of materials selection, recyclable materials
  • Water: Consumption issues
  • Ecology & Land Use: Ecological value of the site, planting and landscaping
  • Health and Well-Being: Internal and external issues relating to health and comfort

EcoHomes offers the benefits of reduced running costs through greater energy and water efficiency, and reduced maintenance as well as a healthy, comfortable and flexible internal environment.

Environment friendly features in your New Broughton home include :
  • Timber Frame Construction: timber framed properties are more energy efficient. The homes heat up more quickly leading to savings on heating bills of 15%-20%
  • Twin flush on toilets: this can cut household water use by 15%. On average every person uses 50 litres of water a day for wc flushing
  • Kitchen appliances: we will provide energy efficiency rated appliances in your kitchen
  • Home/Office facilities: we will provide a dedicated area for computer connections
  • Construction materials: that reduce environmental impacts in the manufacturing process
  • Recycling: we will provide three internal storage bins to encourage recycling
  • A Home User Guide will be provided for each property
  • Cycle storage will be provided to the majority of dwellings
  • A range of specially chosen semi-mature and mature trees have been hand picked for this development
